Deborah’s one of those Amazonian Art Godesses you think only exist in graphic novels and fairy-tales. Calming yet focused she commands respect for the casual process in which she takes photos and the powerful result she ends up with. When I see her sitting with a MAC I swoon over her mad skills. I love the light in this image. Elms look like she’s stepped into a Lord Of The Rings Type big budget lighting scenario. Deborah Rossouw and Apple Mac make something religious.

This is my favorite photograph from the Calendar series Deborah and I created with Elms Koortzen. Debs claims it to be a complete accident, a work of chance as she took it casually, her hands and her camera far from her face as we exited my apartment. I love the angle, the lines of the building, and Deb’s P.P. work is out of this world.

My Shadow Club

For me (in this case) the shadow makes the photograph. I wish I saw more shadows that looked like that.

Make-Up Main Ingredients: MAC #42 lash, Kohl Pencil in “smolder“, MAC eyeshadow in “all that glitters” and “Black Tied” MAC pigment “Dark Soul“, YSL Touche Éclat.
Pro Tip for nude or swimwear shoots: Spray hairspray all over her skin for shine and muscle definition [taught to me by Lyndall Jarvis on the Pasella shoot.]
